The original design of the Pantosh chair was born of the fusion of two pieces of furniture: the Panton chair by Danish architect Verner Panton (created in 1968), and the Willow Chair, designed by Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh (created between 1902 - 1904).
The Pantosh was the first creation of the Viralata Series which brought forth the fusion concept to furniture design. Three years after it was officially launched, due to its great sales and media success, the Pantosh stool was made available. The Pantosh family includes the Pantosh Side/Dining Chair, Pantosh Easy Chair, Pantosh Bar Stool and Pantosh Kids Chair.
The chair makes strong yet subtle references to the roots of Brazilian culture, expressing a true "mongrel" philosophy that highlights the elements of miscegenation and syncretism in the Brazilian people.
The name of this piece also plays with the notion of fusion: Panton+Mackintosh=Pantosh.
