Regg (wall) chair by Lattoog

Lattoog wanted to pay a tribute to the hammocks for a long time. Maybe by far the most genuinely Brazilian furniture as the hammock takes its roots in South American indigenous cultures, originally made out of jungle vine and other fibers. With the arrival of the first Portuguese settlers, the new immigrant’s women adopted the techniques used by the natives and went on to make hammock out of cotton enabling the new hammock to be embroidered and fringed. Now, centuries after Brazil’s colonisation, we wish to present this piece, which explores the concept of miscegenation and syncretism, result of the very process of colonisation. Here the hammock is displayed next to the famous 1958 Arne Jacobsen armchair in order to highlight the pieces iconographic qualities. Exploring the possible relations between the hammock and different architectural surroundings, the dependency of an auxiliary support such as a wall with the airy lightness of being suspended above the ground.
As a support to the wall chair, a giant wooden winding nail was used. As a support to the ceiling chair, a custom – made chain with round metal rings was used.
This chair is part of the ´Fusions Series´, a diverse collection of pieces which are the result of a constant recombination process among furniture resulting in next-generation creations.
The Regg chair, like other chairs from the same series, embodies the concept of "cultural anthropophagy", launched in Brazil by Oswald de Andrade in 1928 – the notion of devouring the colonial culture and transforming it into something Brazilian and revolutionary.
The name of this piece also plays a big role: Rede (Hammock in Portuguese) + Egg = Regg.
